With substantial financial resource, our client is a highly successful and respected investment house.
Currently completing three simultaneous acquisitions, they will create a new public sector outsourcing platform that will pursue a highly focused buy & build strategy across a rapidly evolving and consolidating niche market.

Their ambition: to deliver triple digit EBITDA growth and create c.£200M EV business through a mix of targeted M&A activity and organic development. To deliver their ambitions they seek to assemble a first-class management team – locating a ‘best in class’ CFO is an essential element as their journey begins.

Partnering the CEO, your immediate responsibility is to develop a finance department that is ‘fit for purpose’ for the journey ahead – so that’s analysis of the existing functional capability across the transactions and formulating a plan for the development of people, processes and systems in support of the strategic goals.

Functionally the brief covers the usual mix of financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, financial and performance monitoring, pricing and purchasing, working capital management, maintaining tight control across the business and the development of MI systems. Yet putting these elements to one side, this role is so much more than that – it requires you to be the business foil to a focused CEO and a CFO who wants to play a key role in the future growth of the business.

Naturally you’ll undertake appraisals of turnkey and greenfield opportunity alongside bespoke M&A and lead on refinancing to support expansion, yet more than this, it’s about having a real say in strategic direction and not just ‘doing the numbers’. Beyond this, the role also challenges you to extend your relationship focus beyond the leadership of your own financial function – internally that’s all about supporting the Board, operational peers and managers with insightful financial guidance; whilst externally the remit centres on liaison with banks, investors and intermediaries.

This is a dynamic role for a highly-experienced CFO (ACA, ACMA) with gravitas and energy – a commercial ‘doer’ who understands the challenge, pace and complexity of a PE Buy & Build…so that’s about exposure to a performance culture where delivering growth, value and values throughout the entirety of the investment cycle is the key driver.

To do this, it’s likely that you’ve been a part of your own growth story that delivered first-hand the cultural transition from entrepreneurially led to corporate driven; so that starts with building a first-class finance function, embedding leading edge software and developing/implementing intelligent processes and systems that deliver meaningful and trustworthy MI/reporting.

Functionally, it seeks people with a track record of seeing the business through the numbers, pinpointing and challenging contract variances and adding real commercial value by applying logical stewardship and guidance to the boardroom and operations.

In terms of sector exposure, we particularly welcome candidates from multi-sited operational businesses with large workforces where the delivery of service level agreements/contracts to time, cost and quality are key drivers – logistics, maintenance, staffing, outsourcing, healthcare and service sectors are good matches.

Given the pace of expansion, experience within PE backed ventures where the public purse is your payor will be highly advantageous; as is M&A exposure and competency in managing complex refinancing situations.
