UK community equipment provider snapped up by Medux

UK community equipment provider Medequip has been acquired by Medux, a cluster of Dutch companies specialising in medical equipment. The two companies will continue to operate independently.

With the acquisition, Medux and Medequip aim to strengthen their services and broaden their customer bases.

Medux is owned by investment firm NPM Capital and is a holding company for different brands operating in the Dutch market. It supplies more than 1.5 million medical devices annually to healthcare organisations and private individuals via its brands Medipoint, HartingBank, and Atlas Kidtech.

Medequip is the UK’s market-leading provider of community equipment and complementary services to local authorities and the NHS. Medequip’s services enable individuals to live independently at home for longer, alleviating pressures on the NHS and other healthcare services. It is headquartered in Harmondsworth and has operations across the UK.

Medequip has more than 1,000 employees and in 2021 it had a turnover of £200 million. The combined company will have a turnover of €600 million per year, the Dutch consultancy Vardetun estimates.

James Ibbotson, chief executive of Medequip said: “By working alongside Medux, we can capitalise on its vast experience as the market leader in the Netherlands and further accelerate Medequip’s growth. Medux has an impressive reputation in the Dutch equipment market, and we look forward to our exciting future together with great confidence.”

“This is a big step forward for Medux”, added Jop Pollmann, chief executive of Medux, “We are strengthening our position in the European equipment market; a market that is growing rapidly due to the ageing population and government policies to enable people to live at home independently for longer. This is something we are very familiar with and which provides significant opportunities for both Medux and Medequip.”

Matthew Lee, managing director in Lincoln’s Healthcare Group, commented, “The acquisition of Medequip by Medux is a synergistic deal, expanding Medux’s geographic presence and bringing scale economies and creating benefits through shared best practices. Our cross-border team advising on this transaction is exemplary for Lincoln’s proposition, combining extensive industry expertise with dedicated local execution capabilities, in this case, across both the UK and the Netherlands.”

Lincoln International advised Medux and NPM Capital while Boston Consulting Group (BCG) supported with a commercial diligence.

Clearwater International advised Medequip and CIL Management Consultants provided vendor commercial due diligence. David Weavers, partner at Clearwater International said that Medux has committed to further investment.
