UK veterinary group expands in Spain with two acquisitions

UK-based veterinary group VetPartners, which also has practices in France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, has acquired Praxia and Medican Veterinary Center in Alicante and Madrid respectively.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. But VetPartners’ managing director in Spain, Augusto Macias, claims there is ‘huge potential’ for more growth in Spain.

The acquired Praxia, which was founded in 2001, works with the University of Murcia Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and specialises in cardiology, orthopaedics, and other disciplines. The Medican Veterinary Center offers emergency, ultrasound, ophthalmology, cardiology, and dental services.

Founded in 2015, VetPartners is headquartered in York and operates 188 small animal, mixed, farm, and equine practices across the UK. It employs more than 7,000 people across nearly 550 sites.

Indeed, the BC Partners-backed group has been very acquisitive lately. As reported by HealthInvestor UK, in late November it bought the London-based Goddard Veterinary Group. The group has further announced that it has added four practices in Italy, and six in France to its European portfolio.

Macias said: “By focusing on its people and the veterinary profession, VetPartners is making a huge difference. We focus on attracting and growing talent, with good professionals and good people who can continue developing in the profession. We aim to make VetPartners clinics and hospitals a great place to work, where all team members, veterinarians, assistants, and support staff, are respected as people so that we can achieve a positive work environment.

“VetPartners understands the DNA of each veterinary clinic and hospital and bring human, financial and resources to these practices, always with respect for the people and the veterinary professional.”
