Cleveland Clinic: Brian Donley

Brian Donley has been named the chief executive of Cleveland Clinic London, effective immediately.

Donley (pictured) will also continue to hold his current post within the US healthcare group as provider of chief of staff and chief of clinical operations until a successor is named.

Cleveland Clinic bought 33 Grosvenor Place, near Buckingham Palace, for around £250 million in 2015, and confirmed in 2016 that it would be converting the site into its first London hospital.

The six-storey facility, which is due to open in the second half of 2020, will have 205 inpatient beds, eight operating theatres, a full imaging suite, endoscopy and catheterization labs, day surgery rooms and a neurological suite which can provide rehabilitation services. The hospital will provide general surgery, cardiology and neurology services.

Tom Mihaljevic, chief executive and president of Cleveland Clinic, said: “Brian’s leadership experience and his success as an educator and innovator make him exceptionally qualified to take on this important new role. His deep understanding of Cleveland Clinic’s operations and culture will enable him to bring this vision to life, offering Londoners a new model of patient care that is innovative, research-based, and physician-led. Our goal is to provide patients with access to outstanding clinical care that is delivered efficiently and puts patients at the center of everything we do.”

Donley joined Cleveland Clinic as an orthopaedic surgeon in 1986 and has held numerous positions within the company since. He is also professor of surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
