TechnologyGeneral Dental Council: Bill Moyes
The General Dental Council (GDC) will retain Bill Moyes as chair, following his reappointment by the Privy Council.
His initial four-year appointment runs until the end of September this year. This has now been extended for a further four years until 30 September 2021.
Moyes was the founding executive chairman of Monitor (now NHS Improvement) between 2004 and 2010. Prior to this he was director-general of the British Retail Consortium from 2000, and he previously had a 20-year career within the civil service.
Ian Brack, chief executive of the GDC welcomed the Privy Council’s decision. He said: “Under Bill’s leadership, the Council has not shied from taking difficult decisions and has been willing to think radically about the way the GDC works in pursuit of our ambition to become a high-performing, effective regulator. That focus and determination is delivering results and has laid a solid foundation for further improvements.”
Moyes commented: “While there are challenges which lie ahead, there is a real opportunity for the sector to work together to make the system of regulation work better for patients, and remain fair for dental professionals so that public confidence in dental services is strengthened.”
