Healthcare at Home: Darryn Gibson

Former Allied Healthcare chief executive and Mitie chief operating officer Darryn Gibson has replaced Natalie Douglas as boss at Healthcare at Home.

Gibson officially commenced his new role at the Vitruvian Partners-backed home care firm on 16 April, as was first revealed by HealthInvestor UK.

He was chief executive at financially troubled Allied Healthcare from February 2013 to January 2016. The domiciliary care firm was bought at the end of 2015 by Aurelius Group for £19 million, with seller Saga making a one-off £10 million contribution to Allied Healthcare’s pension fund as part of the deal.

Gibson was then chief operating officer at Mitie from April 2016 to November 2017. Mitie infamously disposed of its ailing domiciliary care division to Apposite Capital for £2 in March 2017.

Healthcare at Home specialises in delivering medicines and acute level home-care. It was bought by Vitruvian Partners in February 2012.

The company was the subject of an investigation by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism for the Independent for serious delays in delivering vital medicines in 2014.

Commenting on his new post, Gibson said: “I am delighted to be joining Healthcare at Home, an organisation which I have long admired. I feel privileged to become part of an outstanding and dedicated team which is passionate about improving patients’ lives every single day, adding value to our public and private partners, and transforming the way healthcare is delivered. I look forward to helping Healthcare at Home build on the exceptional job that Natalie Douglas and the team have done over the last few years."

Douglas has left the organisation to pursue other opportunities.
