Mater Private Healthcare: Fergus Clancy, John Hurley

Irish firm Mater Private Healthcare has appointed a new chief executive and executive chairman.

Fergus Clancy (pictured) has moved up from the role of chief executive to become executive chairman while John Hurley will take up the chief executive role.

Hurley is a heart transplant surgeon by trade, having completed his training at the Cleveland Clinic.

He took up the role of chairman at the Mater Private Heart & Vascular centre in 2009 and was appointed chief executive of Mater Private Hospital, Dublin, in 2014.

Clancy joined the group in 2004 and led a private equity backed buy out of the company in 2007.

Prior to joining Mater, he was the founding partner of a consulting business that he sold to British multinational firm Aon in 2004.

Clancy will retain overall responsibility for strategic leadership and governance at the firm, according to the company.
