OSD Healthcare: Phil Bates

Phil Bates

OSD Healthcare has appointed Phil Bates as its new chief executive, replacing Ray Guirguis, who leaves to become general manager for the UK and Ireland at FutureLife, a pan-European provider of IVF and related genetics services.

Bates began his career in healthcare in 2007 as general manager for Ramsay Healthcare’s Ashtead and North Downs Hospitals in Surrey, having previously been the manager for Ramsay and Capio in Lancashire.

In 2011, Bates was appointed as hospital director at Aspen Healthcare’s (now trading as Nuffield Health) East London facility, The Holly Private Hospital, and in 2017 took up a leadership role at Parkside Hospital in West London. In 2019 Bates also took on the additional responsibility for Cancer Centre London until last year which saw him head back to Ramsay Healthcare to become hospital director. He will begin his new role at OSD Healthcare on 15 April, after a one-month handover period.

Bates said: “I am delighted to be taking up the role of CEO at OSD Healthcare, a hospital well known in the community for providing accessible, affordable and high-quality care. I am joining the team at a very exciting time of growth and look forward to leading and supporting the team as we strive to expand our service offering to better meet the needs of our patients.”

The OSD Healthcare board stated: “Phil has an extensive career in healthcare, spanning over 16 years, with a focus on shaping and growing community private hospitals. We are thrilled to be welcoming a CEO with such a wealth of experience and exceptional strategic and operational management skills. We have no doubt Phil will be an invaluable addition and look forward to working with him to realise the full potential of OSD Healthcare as a leading private healthcare provider. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ray for his commitment and service to the business over the last four years. His leadership has truly positioned the company for success, and we wish him the very best as he embarks on this new chapter of his career.”

Compass Executives’ director Luke Osborne advised on the appointment.
