Liebreich (pictured), who became a trustee in 2002, identified the potential for the hospital to grow into a leading hub for translational research concerning the rapid development and dissemination of new treatments for bowel disease.

Upon becoming chairman in 2007, he organised a major restructuring for the charity in order to attract the large -scale donations required. This saw an increase in annual funds from around £0.5 million to £2 million, enabling the charity to undertake a number of high profile research projects.

Liebreich also oversaw the launch of St Mark’s Institute for Bowel Disease – six centres of excellence of research and education.

Troubridge joined the foundation’s board early in 2017, and becomes chair at the same time that Omar Faiz joins as a new clinical director.

Troubridge commented: “I am delighted to be taking over as chairman of St Mark's Hospital Foundation. https://healthinvestor.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/logo-social-1.png has done a fantastic job during his tenure, in particular, the launch of the Institute for Bowel Disease.”

Liebreich said: “During my 10 years as chairman at St Mark’s Hospital Foundation, I pushed the St Mark’s researchers to be ambitious, and committed the foundation to supporting them. The foundation is now an organisation focused on securing funding for St Mark’s Hospital and the Institute for Bowel Disease to do research that will move us one step closer to a future free from bowel disease.”
