Medical technology firm Thorn Medical has appointed Claire Gates as company chief executive. Gates will replace founder and chief executive Jack Kaye, who will remain on the board as executive director.

Gates was group head, key issuers at MasterCard, and from 2011-2014 was director and global chief operating officer at personal asset lender Borro.com.

She was managing director of Virgin Money Canada between 2009 and 2011 and previously worked at financial services firm GE Capital as joint venture and partnership leader Central and Eastern Europe, among other roles.

Kaye said of Gates' appointment: “Her leadership experience in developing business partnerships and international operations will be a major asset to Thorn Medical as it pursues its mission to break down barriers to providing more efficient and effective healthcare worldwide.”
