Newcastle-based real estate developer Malhotra Group has completed the development of Bede House, a new £10 million specialist care home at Ryhope, Sunderland.

Bede House was officially opened by the Mayor of Sunderland Cllr Harry Trueman today, 6 December 2021.

The house will be operated by Malhotra’s care division Prestwick Care which currently operates 15 care homes in North East England.

The new development offers 68 beds and will provide specialist mental health care for young adults, along with a brain injuries unit. It will also include an on-site café, cinema, hairdressing salon and outdoor terrace along with a greenhouse.

50 full-time jobs and specialist employment positions will be created, the company said.

Malhotra’s chief executive Bunty Malhotra said: “It’s very important to the group that we have been able to create a specialist care facility of this standard in the city and have the ability to provide such high level of care, along with creating a number of job opportunities.”
