BC Partners-backed veterinary group VetPartners has acquired Goddard Veterinary Group, a family-owned London-based vet practice.

Founded in 2015, VetPartners is headquartered in York and operates 188 small animal, mixed, farm, and equine practices across the UK. It employs more than 7,000 people across nearly 550 sites.

The acquired Goddard Veterinary Group was founded in 1952 and has 44 branches and three flagship hospitals in and around London. Dun & Bradstreet has Goddard’s 2020 turnover at £30 million.

Advisor Ashcroft Partnership worked on the sale of Goddard Veterinary Group. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Practice principal Philip Goddard said: “With the consolidation of the market, and due to recent health considerations, we as a group decided that we needed to join forces with another group, ideally with an inspirational leader who shares the same aims and vision of Goddard Veterinary Group.

“The view of the management team was totally unanimous that the best candidate, who we felt would support our principles, our staff, and our clients, and provide the necessary reinvestment in the business, as well as look after our patients in the way we have done for decades, is Jo Malone at VetPartners.”

VetPartners’ chief executive Jo Malone said: “We are delighted to welcome Goddard Veterinary Group to our family of practice because we share many of the same values.”

The acquisition marks further growth by VetPartners. The group is expanding nationally but also across Europe – it recently acquired Swissvet Group, a veterinary practice in Switzerland.
