Virtual care platform Suvera secures £5m in new funding

Suvera’s founders

London-headquartered virtual care platform Suvera has closed a £5 million seed extension financing round led by Morningside Ventures, a Boston-based private equity and venture capital firm.

Suvera’s platform helps care for people with long-term conditions from home and is contracted by general practices across the UK to reduce demand on primary care for managing patients with hypertension and diabetes. The company was launched in October 2019 by UK based entrepreneurs Dr Ivan Beckley, Dr Will Gao and Ryzard Akita. It has signed with more than 40 GP practices, supporting over 20,000 patients.

Suvera stated that the investment allows it to continue to invest in its technology and grow the business with more partners across the UK.

In addition to support from Google for Startups through its Black Founders Fund 2021, Suvera previously received funding from Calm/Storm Ventures, Ascension Ventures and angels including Stephen Bourke, co-founder of Echo Pharmacy (acquired by Lloyds Pharmacy owner, Mckesson), Matthew Miller, co-founder of Ustwo, Chris Kelly, a Google Health research scientist, British actor Colin Salmon and others.

Beckley said: “Increasing demand on GPs, and the continuous workforce challenges across the system, has made it difficult for practices to deliver the care that patients deserve and we’ve seen over the last few years how important digital health solutions are to help improve access to care. Our aim at Suvera is to keep people in good health wherever they are, this funding will help us deliver on this. With the continued support from Morningside, we’re excited to grow our team and help provide better care to more people with chronic conditions.

Stephen Bruso from Morningside Ventures commented: “At Morningside we invest in companies that leverage technology to both improve outcomes and reduce the cost of care at scale. We are proud to continue supporting Suvera in their mission to empower GP practices with powerful chronic condition management tools as they expand across the UK.”
